The Department of Kokborok was established in the year 2023 as an Honours course at Holy Cross College, Agartala. The Kokborok language is the mother tongue of the indigenous peoples of the Tripuri Community in the Northeastern state of Tripura, such as Debbarma, Reang, Jamatia, Tripura, Koloi, Noatia, Rupini, Murasing, and Uchoi.
